Lily’s 90 sqm Chic Vintage Home
A 90 sqm two-bedroom apartment for a young couple working in the IT industry, redesigned with a fireplace-centered living room, walk-in closet, bathtub, and open kitchen-dining area.

Design concept
The design does not simply apply a vintage style. It translates the owner’s wish for a walk-in closet, bathtub, fireplace-centered living room, and resort-like bedroom into a practical spatial structure. Part of the bedroom area is reduced to create a closet and bathtub zone, the kitchen is opened and combined with dining, and the living room is arranged around the fireplace for reading, conversation, and working from home.

Project Basics
This 90 sqm two-bedroom apartment is located in Shenzhen. The owners both work in the IT industry, with busy schedules and limited cooking time, but they had clear expectations for atmosphere, aesthetics, and comfort. The female owner wanted a vintage home with a walk-in closet, bathtub, and fireplace-centered living room.
Layout Reorganization
The original layout was a conventional two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. A long storage cabinet is added below the entry window, integrating storage, full-length mirror, bench, and hanging area. Part of the main bedroom and second bedroom is reduced to create a walk-in closet and bathtub zone. The kitchen is opened to the living area, with dining placed inside the kitchen zone.
Entry
Patterned floor tiles define the entry and separate it from the timber floor in the living room. Rattan elements are used for the shoe cabinet, mirror, and bench, introducing the vintage tone from the moment one enters the home.
Living Room
The living room moves away from a traditional TV-sofa layout. It is arranged around the fireplace, with a three-seat sofa and lounge chair forming a conversational setting. Books, fireplace, ceiling fan light, vinyl player, and long desk together form the emotional centre of the home.
Kitchen and Dining
Although the owners do not cook often, they care about the appearance of the kitchen. The open kitchen uses green cabinetry, white tiles, and a concealed lifting range hood system, which rises when in use and helps address oil-smoke concerns in an open-plan kitchen.
Bedroom and Closet
The main bedroom uses rattan and solid-wood furniture with timber blinds and darker tones to create a relaxed sleeping atmosphere. The walk-in closet uses open storage for easier access, while the compact bathtub area uses a built-in tub and iridescent white tiles to create a refined ritual within limited space.
Second Bedroom and Bathroom
The second bedroom uses a box bed that can be folded away, freeing the room for yoga, meditation, or activity use while keeping occasional guest-room function. The bathroom uses sea-blue tiles in the shower area and white vintage subway tiles elsewhere, with wall-mounted fixtures and a stone basin keeping the room clean and ordered.
