Design concept

The male owner works with overseas clients and often travels abroad. He prefers hotel apartments, cafes, and spaces with a refined technological feeling. The female owner is an art teacher with a collection of small objects, clothes, and accessories. The design uses a black, white, and grey base, an integrated LDK layout, fireplace, lighting, custom cabinets, folding doors, and open shelves to create a compact home tailored to their daily habits.

Project Basics

Located in Qianhai, Shenzhen, this 54 sqm apartment originally had a conventional two-bedroom layout, with a narrow kitchen and bathroom. The owners wanted more quality, storage, display space, and a refined hotel-apartment feeling within a limited area.

Layout Reorganization

The kitchen is opened to form an integrated LDK layout with the living and dining areas. Due to structural walls and room size, the two bedrooms are reorganized into a larger main suite and a multifunctional room. The kitchen and bathroom are enlarged where possible, while a comfortable balcony is kept.

Entry and Storage

The entry includes a shoe cabinet, kitchen access, storage cabinet, bench, and full-length mirror. Custom cabinetry is aligned with walls to increase storage without overwhelming the compact apartment. Mirror cabinets and a laundry cabinet integrate equipment and daily items into cleaner elevations.

Living Room and Fireplace

The living room uses a black, white, and grey palette with cement-textured walls, a light sofa, and blue-red accents. A strip glass window brings natural light into the room, while lighting strips, fireplace glow, and glass shelves create a more atmospheric evening scene.

Multifunctional Room

A glass folding door connects the living room to the multifunctional room. A custom box bed provides a place for occasional guests or family members, and can be folded away to free up activity space. The open shelves, folding door, and strip glass window are aligned to keep the elevation balanced.

Dining, Kitchen and Bathroom

The dining area uses a dark walnut table and leather chairs, with a low-hung pendant to create a restaurant-like atmosphere. The kitchen is mainly black, with the hood and refrigerator embedded in custom cabinets. The bathroom area uses a 1.3 m black stone vanity and mirror cabinet for daily washing and makeup routines.

Main Bedroom and Balcony

The main bedroom combines timber veneer and grey cement paint, with hidden strip lighting, wall lights, and pendant lighting for a relaxed sleeping atmosphere. A 2.2 m bay window connects with the desk to extend the work surface without taking too much circulation space. The balcony becomes a personal coffee and whisky corner.
